At least 30 civilians were killed as a result of an attack by an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) belonging to the country's armed forces in Kaduna state in the north-west of Nigeria, AFP reports.
According to reports, a combat drone attacked a group of villagers celebrating Mawlid - the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani told the agency that dozens of people were killed or injured in an "inadvertent strike" by the military.
Most of the victims are women and children. According to the publication, the attack was carried out as part of a regular raid against illegal armed groups.
According to the Lagos-based SBM Intelligence, about 400 civilians have been killed in airstrikes since 2017 due to errors in the fight against armed groups in the north of the country.
