It is understood that the stampede occurred at the entrance to the metro. Hundreds of people had gathered at the square in the Qatari suburb of Lusail on New Year's Eve to watch a festive concert and then a fireworks display. After the celebration ended, many spectators rushed to the metro in the hope of catching it before it closed. As a result, people began to crush each other.

Nearby police tried to stop the riot with batons and whips. An investigation is currently underway. Among other things, it is being assessed that the police failed to provide security measures during the festive events.
