Head of Mossad David Barnea met with the Prime Minister of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Europe on December 15-16. The meeting discussed the resumption of indirect negotiations with Hamas on the release of hostages remaining in Gaza , The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources in Washington .

Sources note that Barnea's meeting with the Qatari prime minister is just the beginning of a long and complicated negotiation process. CIA director Bill Burns and Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamil were notified of the resumption of talks.

Qatari mediators contacted Israeli officials last week to see if they were interested in resuming indirect talks with Hamas , the American publication Axios reported .

According to one of the interlocutors of the publication, the agreement may include the release of women, the elderly, the seriously ill and the seriously injured.
