Chinese is taught as a second foreign language in Georgian schools
According to the Georgian Ministry of Education, Chinese is taught as a second foreign language in the country's schools.
In institutions, this course begins in grade 5. Until now, students have had the opportunity to choose from French, German, Italian, Turkish, and other languages.
English is taught as a first foreign language from grades 1 to 12 on a mandatory basis.
According to the ministry, Chinese is currently taught as an additional service in 15 schools across the country.
Due to the growing demand for the language, work will now begin on developing a unified standard for teaching Chinese in collaboration with the Department of Chinese Studies at Tbilisi State University, the report says.
