Artificial intelligence threatens humanity
A report commissioned by the US State Department stated that artificial intelligence poses a threat to humanity, and in the worst case scenario, it will lead to the extinction of the human race. The report proposed measures to reduce its risks, including creating a special Federal agency, banning the public release of details of powerful models, and funding research into SI security.
The American magazine TIME published the main conclusions of the report on the security of artificial intelligence (AI) prepared by the Gladstone AI company on the order of the US State Department (MFA).
In a study launched in November 2022, the report's authors conducted more than 200 interviews with government officials, experts, and employees of leading AI labs, including OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Anthropic, and Meta, to uncover concerns about AI security in the industry.
The report called "Measurement plan for increasing the security of artificial intelligence " consists of 247 pages and was prepared at the cost of 250 thousand US dollars.
It proposes measures to reduce AI risks, including creating a Federal AI agency, banning the public release of details of powerful AI models, tightening controls on AI chip production, and funding AI security research.
The report states: "In a worst-case scenario , AI could pose an extinction-level threat to humanity. The current development of AI poses an urgent and increasing threat to national security. Advanced and widespread development, like the eventual development of nuclear weapons , will destabilize global security. has potential ", - it is said .
The report highlights the threat of AI weaponization and loss of control over IS systems, citing unprecedented risks of exploitation and potential for hostile behavior. The article also worries that the SI industry has a "competitive dynamic" that prioritizes speed of development over safety.
The researchers stressed the need for "immediate and decisive" action by the US government to address the national security threats posed by IS .
