ADL Secretary General Calls on International Community to Take Serious Action Against Islamophobia

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (ALS), Ahmed Abu al-Ghait, called on the international community to step up the fight against Islamophobia, Arab News reported.

The statement was made on Tuesday at an international conference against Islamic intolerance in Cairo.

Abu al-Ghait called Islamophobia a dangerous and growing evil that undermines peace, harmony, mutual respect, and values.

According to him, the origins of Islamophobia are linked to false propaganda, a lack of sufficient knowledge about the fundamentals of Islam in Western society, and a false association of it with terrorism.

The Secretary-General accused the media of biased reporting, saying it could spread negative stereotypes, fuel extremist sentiment, and lead to divisions between religious and national communities.

The conference in Cairo was attended by representatives of the League of Arab States, the World Organization for Islamic Education, Science and Culture, Al-Azhar University, several Christian organizations, and countries from the Arab world.
