"On January 24 of this year, at approximately 11:00 Moscow time, the Il-76 plane crashed in the Belgorod region during the scheduled flight," the report said.
On board the plane were 65 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who were brought to the Belgorod region for exchange, as well as six crew members and three companions, the ministry noted.
The RF Aerospace Forces Commission flew to the Il-76 crash site in the region to determine the cause of the crash.
Earlier, the governor of the Bogorodsk region of Russia, Vyacheslav Gladkov, announced that he went to the "scene of the incident" in the Korochansky district.
"The incident in the Korochansky district. Currently, the operative-investigative group and employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations are working at the scene. I changed my work schedule and went to the area. All details will be known later, " he wrote on the Telegram channel.
