A ship loaded with 2,408 tons of humanitarian aid prepared by the Natural Disasters and Emergencies Agency (AFAD) of the Turkish government left for Sudan from Mersin International Port of Turkey.

Turkey has sent 2,408 tons of humanitarian aid prepared under the leadership of the Natural Disasters and Emergencies Agency (AFAD) to Sudan, Anadolu Agency reports.

With the support of the Ministry of Health of Turkey, the Turkish Red Crescent Society and other organizations, the ship "Sard" loaded with food, hygiene products, clothes, shelter and medical supplies left the international port of Mersin, located in the south of Turkey.

"We planned to send 160 tons of medicines and medical equipment, 128 tons of clothes, 90 tons of hygiene products, 44 tons of blankets and various shelter materials allocated by the Ministry of Health. We hope that the ship will reach Sudan on July 19-21," said AFAD head Okai Memish.

For information, about 8 million people have been forced to leave their homes and homeland due to the internal conflict and drought that has been going on for some time in Sudan. More than 700 thousand children are about to die of hunger.
