Turkey extradites Mubashshir Ahmad to Uzbekistan

On the morning of May 8, 2025, the chairman of the board of trustees of the "Azon" Foundation of the Peoples of Central Asia, the founder of the "Azon Global" information and analytical portal, Ustad Mubashshir Ahmad (Alisher Tursunov), was taken away from his home in Istanbul by Turkish police as a suspect.

According to the latest information provided to the lawyers, after interrogation, Mubashshir Ahmed was to be transferred to the Deportation Center in Istanbul and released the next day, May 9.
For the past 4 days, the Immigration Department (Göç İdaresi) has not provided any information about the whereabouts, health, or trial of Mubashshir Ahmad, either to his lawyers or to his relatives.

According to Turkish lawyer Ibrahim Ergin, Mubashshir Ahmed was deported to Uzbekistan.
It is reported that he was to be urgently deported on May 9, but was sent to Edirne due to public intervention.

"He was held under intelligence surveillance at the Migration Office in Edirne, and later returned to Istanbul on Saturday. In the meantime, he was bypassed by the legal system and illegally extradited to Uzbekistan," the human rights activist said in a statement.

According to lawyer Ibrahim Ergin, it is not permissible, legally, religiously, or conscientiously, to send someone who has come to seek safety and asylum back to their country.

"With this incident, the tragedy of the Boraltan Bridge, which has become a stain on our history, has been repeated again. Those who committed this act must certainly be punished, both in the courts and in their consciences," Ibrahim Ergin wrote on his page on X.
