Tokaev called for further strengthening of cooperation between Central Asian countries
Today, on August 9, the 6th Consultative meeting of the leaders of the Central Asian countries was held in Astana under the chairmanship of the President of Kazakhstan Kasim-Jomart Tokaev.
At the meeting, the head of Kazakhstan said that there is a complex military-political situation in the region and emphasized the need for joint action in the field of defense policy and security.
He also added that it is important to strengthen political dialogue and trust between the countries of the region in order to effectively overcome modern threats.
"Today, we are witnessing that the fundamental foundations of the system of international relations are falling apart. In such conditions, maintaining peace and stability in our region remains the main task," Toqaev said.
In addition, he spoke about the development of the transit and transport potential of Central Asia and supported the proposal to establish a Business Council for the countries of the region.
At the same time, he proposed the development of a new cooperative water policy based on the equitable use of water.
"Multilateral water cooperation can be based on the initiatives of joint construction of hydropower facilities and the establishment of a water-power consortium for the countries of Central Asia," said Toqaev.
In addition, he raised the issue of cooperation in the fields of education, science and culture, creation of joint media products, and considering the possibility of launching a regional TV channel or internet news portal.
At this meeting, the roadmap for the development of regional cooperation until 2027 was approved. This document will improve the coordinated work of governments and strengthen control over the progress of initiatives proposed in the field. In addition, another important document aimed at the development of regional cooperation "Central Asia - 2040" was signed.
President of Kyrgyzstan Sadir Japarov, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev also spoke at the consultation meeting.
