The US State Department has sent an official notice to Turkey regarding the sale of 40 F-16 Block fighter jets, the modernization of the existing 79 F-16s, and the supply of spare parts to them. The decision is likely to be approved by Congress following Turkey's approval of Sweden's accession to NATO.

In particular, the US Department of State sent an official notification to Congress approving the sale to Turkey of 40 F-16 Block 70 fighter jets and the modernization of 79 existing F -16 aircraft and spare parts kits for them, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a statement.

The US State Department has decided to authorize the sale and modernization of F -16s and related equipment worth about $23 billion to Turkey, the report said.

The report states that the sale of F -16 aircraft to Turkey is important from the point of view of NATO's security and stability.

Earlier, Ben Cardin, the chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, announced that he intends to approve the sale of fighter jets to Turkey as soon as he receives the appropriate notification from the White House.

"My approval of Turkey's request for the purchase of F -16 aircraft was dependent on its approval of Sweden's entry into NATO, " the senator expressed satisfaction with Ankara's decision to approve Sweden's entry into the Alliance.

According to the relevant legislation, this notification should be considered by Congress within 15 days for NATO countries and 30 days for NATO member states.
