The legacy of the USSR is left behind: the countries of the region have resolved the border issue
The countries of the former USSR have put an end to border conflicts. Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan signed an agreement on the 984-km-long state border. As a result, the "Kayragach" and "Kyzyl-Bel" checkpoints were reopened, and air flights Bishkek-Dushanbe and Bishkek-Khujand were restored. During the negotiations, Kyrgyzstan made some concessions, in particular, the village of Doston was completely transferred to Tajikistan.
At the same time, another important event took place on the geopolitical stage. Azerbaijan and Armenia also reached an agreement on all points of the peace treaty. Yerevan expressed its readiness to remove territorial claims against Azerbaijan from the Constitution. The condition was also accepted not to deploy military forces of a third country on the border.
"We have fully analyzed the agreement and have come to the conclusion that this compromise option, which was formed as a result of four years of negotiations, may be acceptable for Armenia," Pashinyan said.
However, it has not been disclosed how the Zangazur corridor issue was resolved. It is also unknown when the document will be signed. Experts have different opinions on whether or not to believe in the signing of the agreement. However, there is no doubt that an agreement has been reached on all points of the agreement.
Experts say these agreements are seen as an important step towards stability and economic development in the region. The resolution of border disputes will help attract investment, expand trade relations and consolidate peace. However, water scarcity remains a pressing problem.
Political scientists argue that territorial disputes deliberately created during the Soviet era are the root of current disagreements. However, the current trend shows that countries are abandoning conflicts among themselves and choosing the path of stability and development.
