The issue of face masks is causing many objections in Kyrgyzstan
Earlier, videos circulated on social media showing Kyrgyz police conducting preventive interviews with women wearing masks on the streets. The video sparked widespread discussion among Internet users.
Responding to this situation, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov stressed that such raids have nothing to do with government policy.
"Recently, a new law regulating the religious sphere was adopted in our country. According to it, all issues related to religion were transferred to the authority of the Mufti and the Council of Ulema. The government does not and cannot interfere in religious affairs," Japarov said in an official statement.
According to him, the fight against clothing such as full-face veils is not a state policy, but an internal regulation established by the Muftiyyat. State bodies are obliged to assist in ensuring the implementation of the requirements of this law.
According to official information, those who fail to comply with the provisions of the new law will be fined 20,000 soms.
