The flag of the Organization of Turkic States has been updated
The new flag of the organization was adopted at the summit of the heads of state of the member countries of the Organization of Turkic States held in Bishkek. In it, the eight-pointed star, known as the Star of the Seljuks or the Star of the Oghuz, incorporates the images of the moon, star and sun from the old flag.
The new flag of the organization was approved at the 11th summit of the heads of state of the member countries of the Organization of Turkic States held in Bishkek on November 6.
"This flag embodies the main symbols of Turkish identity, unity, common heritage and comprehensive cooperation, which are central to the TDT mission," the statement of the organization says.
The flag was approved by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Turkey Rajab Tayyip Erdogan, President of Azerbaijan Ilhom Aliev, President of Kazakhstan Kasim-Jomart Tokaev and President of Kyrgyzstan Sadir Japarov.
The eight-pointed star was one of the main symbols of the Seljuk and Ottoman Empires and was widely used on coins, ornaments and architecture. It also has a direct connection with Islam.
