The city of Aktau was awarded the status of the cultural capital of the Turkish world in 2025
The city of Aktau in Kazakhstan was declared the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2025 by the TURKSOY organization. This honorary title was acquired in 2024 by the city of Anau, Turkmenistan. Various international events, festivals, conferences, etc. are held in Aktau throughout the year.
Aktau received the baton from Anau, Turkmenistan. This was announced at the 41st meeting of the member states of the TURKSOY international organization for the development of Turkish culture and art, which was held in Ashgabat, Kazinform reports, referring to the Public Relations Center of the Mangistau region.
At the closing ceremony of "Anau - the cultural capital of the Turkic world-2024", Aktau, the symbol of the cultural capital of the Turkic world, was handed over.
During the year, Turkic-speaking relatives were guests in the ancient city of Anau of Turkmen, holidays, various international events, including film festivals, exhibitions, scientific conferences, and youth forums were held.
Now this honorable task is entrusted to the city of Aktau, where similar events are held.
In addition, it is planned to hold poetry readings, a symposium of artists and sculptors, a craftsman's festival, historical-scientific conferences, etc.

The decision to annually elect the cultural capital of the Turkic world was made in 2010 at the 10th summit of the leaders of Turkic-speaking countries. In 2012, Astana was named the first cultural capital. Over the years, this honorable status was given to the cities of Eskisehir, Kazan, Mari, Sheki, Turkestan, Kastamonu, Osh, Khiva, Bursa, Shusha.
