The arrest of an activist in Bashkortostan caused public protests
In Bashkortostan, after Fail Alsinov was imprisoned for 4 years on charges of extremism, thousands of local residents protested. Alsinov was captured in October 2023. The criminal case against Una was initiated because of her speech at the public meeting held in the village of Ishmurzino, Baymak district of Bashkortostan on April 28. According to the investigation, during his speech in Bashkir, he used the words "Caucasus people", "Central Asia" and "Armenians" in a negative sense. For example, Alsinov said in his speech that "Armenians should go to their homeland, "black people" ("kara khalyk" means Central Asians - ed. ) to their countries, Russians to their Ryazan, Tatars to their Tatarstan."
According to the Russian press, the criminal case against him was initiated by the order of the head of the republic, Rady Khabirov.
At a court hearing held on January 11, the state prosecution asked the court to sentence Alsinov to a colony for four years, after which efforts to protect the eco-activist began in Bashkortostan.
Fail Alsinov is one of the famous activists in Bashkortostan. He participated in many protests in the republic. He also headed the national organization "Bashkort", which defends the sovereignty of Bashkortostan (in 2020, the organization was declared "extremist" and then dissolved).
