Shavkat Mirziyoyev's state visit to China: basic information

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev paid a state visit to China on January 23. Important meetings and negotiations took place during the visit. Azon Global will briefly highlight the most important aspects of this visit.

The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev left for this country on a state visit at the invitation of the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping.

The head of state was met by the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China Sun Eli and other officials at the Shoudu International Airport.

January 24

Shavkat Mirziyoev met with the Prime Minister of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Qian. At the meeting, issues of modernization of infrastructure, expansion of industrial cooperation, technology transfer in agriculture and preparation of special cooperation programs for the development of "green" energy were discussed. Also, prospects of deepening practical cooperation with leading banking and financial institutions of China and participation of Chinese companies in privatization processes in Uzbekistan were considered.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev also held a meeting with Zhao Letzi, chairman of the All-China Committee of the People's Political Consultative Council. It was noted that Uzbekistan is interested in establishing centers for training specialists in technical areas, learning China's experience in social protection and insurance, providing targeted assistance to the population.

The head of state visited the Tiananmen Square in Beijing, laid a wreath at the monument to the People's Heroes, and paid tribute to the memory of those who died for China's independence and freedom in the 19th and 20th centuries.

The President of Uzbekistan visited the headquarters of the Asian Infrastructural Investment Bank and held talks with the bank's president Jin Lixun. The head of state noted the importance of expanding financing of deep processing projects of strategic raw materials and implementation of socially significant programs based on public-private partnership.

At the meeting with Day Houlian, the Chairman of CNPC Oil and Gas Corporation of China, the issues of construction of natural gas storage capacities and modernization of gas transmission systems, implementation of modern drilling technologies and implementation of promising projects for training specialists for the oil and gas network were discussed .

In the meeting with the Chairman of the Export-Import Bank of China Wu Fulin, the Bank's plans to open a regional office in Tashkent and to form new promising projects for the development of transport and social infrastructure, industry and the private sector were discussed .

The official welcoming ceremony of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev was held at the People's Assembly House in Beijing's Tiananmen Square. An honor guard lined up in honor of the head of state. President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping welcomed the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

After the welcoming ceremony, on January 24, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Xi Jinping held talks with members of official delegations. At the meeting:

·          It was emphasized that it is important to start the practical work on the construction of the "China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan" railway, which will be an important component of the Transregional transport and transit bridge within the framework of the "One place, one road" initiative;

·          the need to activate cooperation in the field of education and tourism, to continue the practice of holding mutual cultural days was shown;

·          It is confirmed that the "One China" policy and the stance on fighting the "three evil forces" will not change;

·          Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited Xi Jinping to visit Uzbekistan.

After high-level negotiations, a ceremony of signing bilateral documents was held. In particular, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of China Xi Jinping signed a joint statement, which envisages "comprehensive strengthening of mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields" and others.

- Agreement between the governments of Uzbekistan and China on cooperation in the field of environmental protection;

- Agreement on technical and economic cooperation between the governments of Uzbekistan and China;

- Agreement on cooperation between the governments of Uzbekistan and China on the development of human resources;

- Agreement between the governments of Uzbekistan and China on the cooperation of state research institutions;

- Agreement between the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Education of China on cooperation in the field of Chinese language teaching;

- Agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan and the General Administration of Customs of China on phytosanitary requirements and control in the export of peas from Uzbekistan to China;

- Protocol on deepening cooperation between the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan and the State Committee for Reforms and Development of China on the China-Central Asia-Europe railway expressway;

- Protocol on the development of cooperation in the field of new electric vehicles between the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Commerce of China;

- Memorandum of agreement between the Ministry of Poverty Reduction and Employment of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China on cooperation in the field of poverty reduction;

- Memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Science and Technology of China on further strengthening of scientific and technical cooperation;

- Protocol on cooperation in the field of standardization between the Technical Regulatory Agency of Uzbekistan and the Chinese Standardization Administration;

- Agreement between the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan and the Civil Aviation Administration of China on the joint establishment of the "Air Silk Road";

- Cooperation plan in the field of tourism between the Tourism Committee under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China in 2024-2026;

- Agreement on establishment of partnership relations between Tashkent region and Shensi province;

- Agreement on establishment of partnership relations between the cities of Samarkand and Qingdao, etc.

Important information on Uzbekistan-China relations

In 2023, trade between the two countries will increase by 50% and reach a record level of 14 billion dollars.

It is planned to increase this indicator to 20 billion dollars, including by increasing the mutual supply of high-quality industrial and agricultural products.

In recent years, the volume of investments from China to the economy of Uzbekistan has increased fivefold, and the number of joint ventures has increased threefold.

The total volume of investments from China to the economy of Uzbekistan has exceeded 14 billion dollars.

A pilot project on the introduction of the Chinese "Lu Ban Workshop" professional education system has been launched in Uzbekistan.
