Strong earthquakes occurred in a number of Chinese provinces. More than 100 people lost their lives.

A 6.2-magnitude earthquake occurred near the border of China's Gansu and Qinghai provinces at night, the state news agency "Xinhua" reports. At least 105 people were killed and nearly 400 injured in Gansu province, and 11 people were killed in Qinghai, local authorities said.

More than 4,700 houses were damaged. Electricity and water supply were cut off in some villages.

Rescue operations are ongoing. According to the state media, about 1,500 firefighters have been mobilized and another 1,500 are on standby. More than 300 officers and soldiers were also mobilized to eliminate the consequences of the natural disaster.

Earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.4 were also recorded in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. There are no victims and no destruction.
