PKK declares ceasefire
The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has begun the process of laying down its arms and disbanding the organization, following calls from its imprisoned leader Abdullah Ocalan in Turkey.
According to current reports, the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is designated a terrorist organization in Turkey, has begun a process of disarmament and disbandment. The decision was taken following calls from the organization's imprisoned leader, Abdullah Ocalan.
According to media reports, the PKK has also asked Turkey to release Ocalan.
It should be recalled that in a statement from prison on February 27, 2025, Ocalan called on the PKK to lay down its arms and disband the organization. He stated that this step would serve to end the long-standing armed conflict with Turkey and establish peace.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan described the call as a "historic opportunity" and called on all PKK-affiliated groups to disarm and disperse.
The disarmament and disbandment of the PKK raises hopes for an end to years of armed conflict in southeastern Turkey and the establishment of peace and stability in the region.
