Old women from Kazan surprised many
The Quran recitation competition held in Kazan amazed not only ordinary spectators, but also the jury, says Ilnur Vafin, imam-khatib of the Ravza mosque.
He said that 50 girls aged 6 to 14 who attended classes at 14 mosques in Kazan participated in the competition. The winners were determined in four categories: reciting the Holy Quran, memorizing the last 10 surahs, memorizing 30 verses, and memorizing half of it.
The first places in each category were taken by Amina Mustafina ("Bukhara" mosque), Alima Bikiteeva ("Ravza" mosque), Maryam Bikiteeva ("Ravza" mosque), and Riana Nasreeva ("Rashida" mosque).
According to the imam-khatib, the competition was held for the second year in a row, and the participants have made great progress throughout the year. For example, those who memorized 10 surahs last year have now memorized half of the 30 surahs, and some have memorized the entire surah.
The knowledgeable jury, consisting of representatives of the Quran Study Center, was amazed by the girls' dedication and spiritual growth. The winners were awarded cash prizes, and all other participants in the competition were awarded certificates and sweets.
