More than 17,000 Uzbeks have applied for asylum in the United States

In 2023, more than 50,000 Central Asians entered America illegally. More than 17,000 citizens of Uzbekistan, 7,000 Kyrgyz, 3,000 Tajikistani, 2,700 Kazakhstani and 2,000 citizens of Turkmenistan have applied for asylum in US courts.

More than 50,000 Central Asians crossed the border into the United States illegally in 2023, Montana State Senator Steve Daines said, citing a "senior official."

Daines expressed concern about the influx of immigrants, noting that some of them pose a potential threat in the form of "sleeper cells capable of carrying out terrorist attacks on US soil."

According to the Transaction Records Analysis Center (TRAC), which monitors asylum hearings in the US, at least 40,000 citizens of Central Asian countries are currently expected to work. 17,000 of them are citizens of Uzbekistan, 7,000 of Kyrgyzstan, 3,000 of Tajikistan, 2,700 of Kazakhstan and 2,000 of Turkmenistan.

In connection with the migrant crisis at the border, the senator appealed to US President Joe Biden to take action.

According to official statistics provided by the Daily Mail, more than 7.3 million immigrants have crossed the US border illegally since Biden took office in 2021. The record number of migrants who crossed the border in one month was recorded in December 2023 and exceeded 302 thousand people. 19 of them were on the FBI's list of wanted terrorists.

It is worth noting that the issue of migration has become one of the main aspects of the 2024 presidential election campaign.

A Reuters-Ipsos poll conducted on January 31 showed that America's interest in migration issues is increasing, with 17 percent of respondents calling this issue the most pressing issue facing the United States at the moment .

We remind you that on March 3, 74 citizens of Uzbekistan, who illegally entered the United States through Mexico, and in December 2023, 119, were deported from the United States. The US embassy in Tashkent said that the deportation of those who came to America illegally will continue.
