Mirziyoyev proposed expanding the membership of the UN Security Council

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev delivered a speech at the general political debate of the 80th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly, which began its work on September 23 at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Mirziyoyev began his speech by warmly welcoming the participants to the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. He noted that this meeting is taking place in a rapidly changing, complex global environment, which calls for new approaches to the organization's activities and its future.

"Today, the place and role of international institutions in the world is weakening, confrontation, conflict and war are intensifying, technological and social inequality is sharply increasing, economic and humanitarian crises are increasing. All this is creating a completely new, alarming geopolitical reality," Mirziyoyev said.

The President highly appreciated the efforts of Secretary-General António Guterres to maintain the UN as the main platform for resolving the most difficult and pressing global issues through compromise. He fully supported the initiatives of "UN-80", and confirmed the firm commitment of our country to the Pact for the Future.

The leader of Uzbekistan called for the transformation of the UN Security Council and expansion of its composition in order to effectively combat modern threats and protect the interests of developing countries.
