The UN adopted the resolution that has been postponed for 40 years
The UN General Assembly adopted the resolution "Universal realization of the right of peoples to self-determination", which Pakistan has been promoting for 40 years .
Against the background of increasing attacks of the Israeli army on the besieged Gaza Strip, the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution "Universal realization of the right of peoples to self-determination" at the initiative of Pakistan.
Pakistan's mission to the UN said in a statement on Tuesday that the resolution was supported by many countries from different regions and was adopted by consensus.
It is noted that the right of peoples to self-determination is the main principle enshrined in Article 1 of the UN Charter, Covenants on Civil and Political Rights and Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, as well as the Vienna Declaration and the Program of Actions.
The resolution reaffirmed the "unconditional" support for the realization of the right of self-determination of peoples living under "foreign occupation, colonial rule and slavery".
"It strongly opposes foreign occupations, interventions and acts of aggression and calls on the countries responsible to immediately stop such acts," the statement said.
The message says that Islamabad has been submitting this important resolution to the UN General Assembly for more than forty years.
" The annual initiative sends a message of hope to peoples living under internationally recognized foreign occupation, including India's illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and the occupied Palestinian territories, who are deprived of their right to self-determination enshrined in international law and numerous UN resolutions ." , - he added.
