Kazakhstan regains control of its uranium mine
Kazakhstan's national atomic company, Kazatomprom, has officially regained control of Budyonovskoe, one of the largest uranium deposits it operates in partnership with Russia's Rosatom.
According to the report of the FNB Samruk-Kazyna Fund, control over the mining operation has now passed to Kazakhstan. Although the size of the share has not changed formally - 51 percent, our neighbors have the right to independently determine the volume of production at Budyonovskoe.
The report says the Kazakhs paid no money to gain control of the strategically important deposit, which is estimated to contain 114,000 tons of uranium.
