Deputies in Uzbekistan adopted a law approving the concept of state policy in the religious sphere



On February 15, 2025, the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis adopted the draft law "On ensuring freedom of conscience of citizens in the Republic of Uzbekistan and approving the concept of state policy in the religious sphere" in the second reading and sent it to the Senate.

The draft law was approved in the first reading on January 31 and was put up for public discussion until February 10. During the discussions, more than 400 proposals and recommendations were received from the public. After that, on February 6, a meeting was held in the Legislative Chamber with representatives of 16 confessions.

Main changes made to the project:

Strengthening dialogue between different faiths;

Strengthening interfaith harmony and solidarity;

To promote the study of the history of religions and the achievements of the people of Uzbekistan in Islamic civilization;

Strengthen measures to increase women's education and socio-economic activity.


The concept, approved by deputies, defines the directions of state policy in the religious sphere and is aimed at ensuring religious freedom in the country. The document, adopted by the Legislative Chamber, has now been sent to the Senate for discussion.
