A young man from Surkhandarya was sentenced to three years in prison for his "story" on Telegram

An 18-year-old man in Surkhandarya region who posted a video of the black flag of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) on his Telegram "story" was sentenced to 3 years in prison.

According to Daryo, the Kumkurgan District Criminal Court considered the case of an 18-year-old man. He was accused of distributing material on the Internet that threatens public safety and order.

According to court documents, the young man posted a video of himself performing an Arabic song with Uzbek subtitles in the "history" section of Telegram.

The young man said he shared the video because he liked the melody of the song. He stressed that he did not speak Arabic, had no religious education, and was unaware that such videos could have criminal consequences.

The court found him guilty under Part 3 of Article 244-1 of the Criminal Code. He was sentenced to 3 years in prison.
