What was agreed upon at the NATO leaders' summit?



A NATO leaders' summit was held in The Hague, Netherlands, on June 24-25 of this year, with the participation of 32 member states. At the summit, NATO countries agreed to increase defense spending to 5 percent of GDP by 2035, after months of pressure from US President Donald Trump.

The US president called the decision at the summit in The Hague "a major achievement for Europe and Western civilization." In a joint statement, the members stressed that they were united in the fight against various threats, in particular Russia and terrorism. It was announced that the 2026 NATO summit will be held in Turkey.

NATO leaders also reaffirmed their strong commitment to the principle of "an attack on one is an attack on all."
