Anti-NATO Canadians set fire to cars, smashed shop windows, and clashed with the police in Montreal. This was reported by the Shot Telegram channel based on footage taken from the scene of the incident.
The 70th session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly is taking place in Montreal. It started on Friday, November 22 and will continue until Monday, November 25.
Radical supporters of left-wing parties, as well as supporters of Hamas, took part in the demonstrations - one of Canada's largest cities was engulfed in a wave of violence. Almost from the beginning of the demonstrations, protesters started rioting in the streets: they broke shop windows, set fire to the cars of local residents and the police. The police tried to quell the riots by force, including using tear gas.
The Montreal Gazette reported that at least three protesters were arrested, citing Montreal police spokesman Manuel Couture.
Earlier, the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, said at the G20 summit in Brazil that he would try to put pressure on the allies regarding the need to accept Ukraine into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The summit was held on November 18-19, and the clause on Ukraine's membership in the alliance was not included in the final declaration.
