US targets Yemen fuel port, at least 58 killed

The US military launched an airstrike on the Yemeni port of Ras Isa on April 17. At least 58 people were killed and more than 126 were injured in the strike, according to Houthi-run media.

Ras Isa is the country's main fuel port, and its targeting could have dire consequences for the daily needs of the Yemeni population.

According to a statement from US Central Command, the operation was carried out to destroy infrastructure used by the Houthis in their attacks in the Red Sea.

But the destruction of port infrastructure could further deepen the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, which has been under blockade for years.
