Trump signs executive order designating Houthis as terrorist organization

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order designating the Iran-backed Ansar Allah (Houthi) group as a terrorist organization. The group poses a serious threat to Americans and partners in the Middle East, according to the order posted on the White House website.

The order, which lists attacks by the Houthis on U.S. warships and merchant ships, as well as strikes against Saudi Arabia and Israel, requires Secretary of State Marco Rubio to submit a report within 30 days on whether to formally designate the Houthis as a terrorist organization.

In 2021, the Biden administration removed the Houthis from the list of terrorist organizations. However, due to their actions against Israel, the group was re-listed as a "specially designated global terrorist organization."
