The death toll from the explosion of a fuel truck in northern Nigeria has risen to 181, with 80 others in hospital. The accident was caused by the speeding of the driver. Those who died were trying to collect the spilled fuel from the tanker.

The number of people killed in the explosion of a fuel truck in Jigawa state in the north of Nigeria has reached 181 people. Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi informed journalists after a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Namadi said 80 people injured in the blast are still in hospital. 210 families were affected by the incident .

It should be noted that on October 16, an explosion occurred in a fuel tanker on the Kano-Khadeja highway in Majia district.

It is noted that the driver lost control over the speed limit and the tanker overturned.

Local residents were collecting fuel spilled from an overturned vehicle when a truck exploded, killing many.

Following the incident, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu called for a comprehensive review of fuel transport safety regulations across the country.
