Earlier, at the end of October, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Russia, Vladimir Kolokoltsev, announced that since the beginning of 2024, 1,200 people have been deprived of Russian citizenship. Most of them are new citizens who refused to participate in the war in Ukraine.
At the end of June, the chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, announced that about 10,000 immigrants who received Russian citizenship took part in a special military operation (Azon Global, as the Russian government calls its war in Ukraine).
In January, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on simplifying the procedure for obtaining Russian passports for foreigners who participated in the war in Ukraine.
