At a meeting with the heads of leading news agencies, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the situation in Gaza and called what is happening there not a war, but the complete annihilation of the civilian population. At the same time, the Russian leader assessed the actions of Hamas as subversive.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with the heads of leading news agencies in St. Petersburg, spoke about the situation in Gaza and said that these events are not like a war, but a complete destruction of the civilian population.
"Of course, we are against all forms of terrorism, attacks against civilians anywhere and in any country, and what is happening in Gaza is still not like a war," Putin said.
Putin blamed the USA for the attacks on Gaza.
"We believe that this is the result of US policy. They monopolized the problem solving process. They put aside all previously created tools to solve a very complex problem," the Russian president said.
Hinting that the US administration may have taken a "less thought, quicker decision" approach to Gaza, Putin said that was not the case. He noted that the problem cannot be solved with the help of some material handouts. It is necessary to solve real, political problems - it is necessary to create states as indicated in the UN resolution on the creation of two states - Palestine and the Jewish state in this area.
Putin commented that the USA and some European countries allowed Ukraine to use the weapons they transferred to Ukraine on Russian territory.
"We will consider this matter. Of course, we will develop an air defense system first. Russia has the right to send long-range weapons to the regions, which will hit sensitive targets in countries that supply weapons to Ukraine. That is, the answer may be asymmetric," President Putin said.
The Russian president noted that he did not raise the issue of the possibility of using nuclear weapons.
"Russia is not showing its nuclear wand. If Russia's sovereignty and integrity are threatened, we can use all the means in accordance with the nuclear doctrine," Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
According to him, if the USA stops supplying Ukraine with weapons, hostilities will stop within two to three months.
The Russian president called on everyone "not to interfere with the possible peace process." He noted that the West prevented the conclusion of a peace treaty between Russia and Ukraine in 2022.
Putin also called it nonsense to talk about Russia's plans to attack NATO.
"We defend ourselves in Ukraine. That's where the United States is - across the ocean, and that's where we are. Imagine what we would be doing right now in Canada with the United States on our doorstep or in Mexico.
Or we can now say that the United States has simultaneously seized part of Mexico's territory and encouraged Mexico to fight for its territory back. Basically, this is roughly the same as what the Western countries are doing in relation to the Russia-Ukraine crisis," said the Russian president.
