Syria begins to establish a national security system

Syrian Interior Minister Ali Kidada announced the creation of a new national security service in the country, a system aimed at holding accountable those responsible for crimes against the Syrian people.

The new security service will operate in accordance with international standards and will undergo training based on respect for human rights, the rule of law, and justice.

Some of the security structures from the Assad regime's overthrow will be transformed into service centers, while others will be reformed to meet new requirements. The General Security Service will also be officially renamed the "Internal Security Service."

After Ahmed al-Shar'a was declared the country's interim president, the new government abrogated the Syrian constitution and announced the dissolution of parliament, while also announcing radical changes to other state structures.
