Syria begins reconstruction of Banyas oil refinery
The Syrian government has begun rebuilding the Banyas refinery, one of the country's largest, after it was shut down after oil supplies from its main supplier, Iran, were cut off.
Ibrahim Muslim, director of the Banyas refinery, told Bloomberg Al-Sharq that the reconstruction work is aimed at increasing oil refining capacity.
As a result of the renovation, the plant's daily production capacity is planned to be increased from 90,000 barrels to 110,000 barrels.
The Banyas refinery is one of two major oil refining facilities in Syria and is of great importance in meeting the country's domestic demand.
The second largest plant is located in the city of Homs, with a capacity to process about 100,000 barrels of oil per day.
Through the renovation work, Syria aims to meet domestic needs in the oil industry and overcome economic difficulties.
