Switzerland files criminal case against Israeli soldier
Switzerland has opened criminal proceedings against an Israeli soldier suspected of committing war crimes in Gaza. The man is currently in Swiss territory, where the case is being considered by the country's judicial authorities.
The complaint was filed by the Belgium-based Hind Rajab Foundation, accusing the suspect of attacks on civilians, the destruction of homes and hospitals, forced displacement, and serious violations of international law in the Gaza Strip.
The official statement from the foundation reads:
"We will not disclose details at this time in order to protect the integrity of the trial. However, we welcome Switzerland's commitment to upholding international law and ensuring that war criminals do not find sanctuary on its territory."
The Hind Rajab Foundation has previously filed similar complaints against Israeli soldiers in Finland, Denmark, Norway, Chile, Argentina, Thailand, and other countries.
Representatives of the fund noted that this investigation indicates that strict measures will be taken against violations of international law:
"Those who commit war crimes, regardless of rank or nationality, cannot find safe haven."
