Spain cancels arms deal with Israel*
The Spanish government has officially canceled a contract with Guardian Homeland Security SA, a company linked to the Israeli* occupation, for the supply of ammunition worth more than 6 million euros , Kommersant reports.
The deal involved the purchase of more than 15 million rounds of ammunition for the Spanish Civil Guard.
According to the source, the reason for the termination of the agreement was sharp criticism from the left-wing coalition party called Sumar. The party's official statement stressed: "No business should be conducted with structures that violate international law and commit massacres against the Palestinian people."
The government justified its decision in the "public interest."
At the same time, despite the Spanish government's announcement that it would halt military trade with the Israeli occupation* starting in 2023, investigations conducted by El Diario revealed that more than 40 contracts in this area were concluded or formalized during 2023.
This situation has created significant pressure on Spanish foreign policy, and the government has been forced to cancel existing agreements in response to international pressure and demands from civil society, the report says.
