Shahbaz Sharif was elected as the new Prime Minister of Pakistan
The chairman of the Pakistan Muslim League Shahbaz Sharif was elected as the new prime minister of the country . He also headed the government in 2022-2023.
Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) chairman Shahbaz Sharif was elected as the country's new prime minister.
Sharif ran as a joint candidate of the PML-N and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) alliance in the election for the leadership of the government.
201 out of 336 deputies of the new convocation of the National Assembly (the lower house of the parliament) voted for the politician.
Umar Ayub Khan, general secretary of Adalat ki Hirak party, his rival in the race for the prime ministership, received 92 votes .
Sharif will be sworn in on March 4.
Shahbaz Sharif led the government of Pakistan from April 2022 to August 2023. His predecessor, Imran Khan, the chairman of the "Justice Movement" party at that time, was removed from office as a result of a vote of no confidence , and later imprisoned for a long time.
