Iranian law enforcement officers have arrested several dozen people as part of the investigation into the assassination of the head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniya, reports The New York Times, citing unnamed sources.
It is noted that the arrests affected, in particular, high-ranking intelligence officers.
Earlier, the general secretary of Lebanon's Hezbollah movement, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, said that the killing of one of the leaders of Hamas in the capital of Iran was a "fatal mistake" by Israel, and now the axis of resistance will return a "strong joint response".
At the same time, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the interim results of the investigation. Investigators concluded that Israeli security forces, with the support of the United States, fired a short-range missile with a 7 kg warhead at the Palestinian politician's compound.
Ismail Haniya was buried yesterday in the outskirts of Doha, the capital of Qatar.
