Lost in Europe, a cross-border journalism project that collects information about missing migrants in Europe, revealed a shocking figure. According to the project participants, 51,433 children who came to Europe went missing between 2021 and 2023.

Lost in Europe sent a request to authorities in 27 EU countries, as well as Moldova, Norway, Great Britain and Switzerland, and was able to obtain information on only 13 young children.

"In terms of the number of missing minors, Italy ranks first - 22,899. It is followed by Austria (20,077), Belgium (2,241), Germany (2,005) and Switzerland (1,226)," the project report says. .

It added that the actual number of missing children could be much higher. Because data is often inconsistent and incomplete. It is important to note that in many European countries, which complain about human rights, missing young children from impoverished countries are not kept track of.

Aage Iven, secretary-general of Missing Children in Europe, described the figures as "very scary".

"The increase in the number of migrants whose rights are not protected means that there is a huge hidden part of the iceberg under the water. It is a sign that Europeans are not as humane as we think," he said.
