Russia: Anti-immigrant populism benefits migrants, harms consumers
Against the backdrop of the massive departure of labor migrants from Russia, employers are forced to increase the monthly salaries of migrants. This, in turn, causes an increase in the cost of goods and services and a decrease in their quality - a study by "Moscow Komsomolets".
Russian companies have sharply increased the wages of foreign workers amid an exodus of immigrants - it has become clear that there is no one to replace them in the labor market. This is stated in a study conducted by "Moscow Komsomol ".
According to one of the specialized services, since the beginning of the year, the monthly salary of immigrants has increased by 40% and today it has reached the level of 150,000 rubles a month. First of all, we are talking about the income of immigrants in construction professions such as welder, concrete worker, monolithic , armature worker.
Last year, the labor force deficit in the country amounted to 4.8 million people. This is equal to the population of the metropolis , and the acute shortage of workers forced local companies to start looking not only in neighboring countries, but also on the African continent: Algeria, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia.
As for immigrants from the CIS countries, their flow almost doubled and worsened the general situation in the labor market. In such a situation, it became clear that something should be done to interest the immigrants in "good income" .
As it turned out, Russians are in charge of filling the vacant jobs not enough According to the study, migrants work 12-14 hours a day instead of 8 hours as stipulated in the Labor Code. Sometimes, when concrete pouring is required , they also work in the night shift. This is very hard work . Also, they have 1-2 days off per month rather than per week.
There is an acute shortage of workers not only in construction, but also in distribution warehouses of chain trade organizations. All this forces employers to increase the wages of immigrants .
Earlier, one of the leading real estate experts, Sergey Smirnov, told how the anti -immigrant campaign played against home buyers. According to him, in order to "maintain the cost of construction", the State Duma adopted a number of laws that reduce the responsibility of manufacturers and quality guarantees to buyers. The main reason for the increase in costs is migration laws adopted by the State Duma, the expert noted.
" As you can see, the main loser in the whole story is the Russian consumer - the lack of a growing workforce forces people to pay more for goods and services, which also lose quality ," the article says .
