Putin spoke about Russia's military base in Tajikistan

Russia's military base in Tajikistan is one of the key security elements in the region, Vladimir Putin said during a meeting with Tajik leader Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe.

The Russian president stressed that the Russian armed forces are making a significant contribution to maintaining peace in Central Asia. According to him, Moscow is actively cooperating with Dushanbe in the areas of defense, military-technical cooperation, and the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking.

"The guarantor of security in Tajikistan and the entire region, including the 201st Russian military base located in the republic," he said.
For your information, Russian military base No. 201 remains Russia's largest foreign military facility.

The base is located in several garrisons - in Dushanbe and Bokhtar (formerly Kurgan-Tepe) and is subordinate to the Central Military District of Russia. The facility houses motorized rifle, tank and artillery units, as well as communications, reconnaissance and air defense units.

In 2012, Russia and Tajikistan signed an agreement extending the base's stay on the republic's territory until 2042. The document provides for cooperation in the defense sector, joint exercises, and the exchange of experience between the armed forces of the two countries.

The main task of the base is to guarantee the security of the Tajik-Afghan border and prevent terrorist groups from entering the territory of the CIS.
