NATO launches operation in response to Russian drones

NATO has announced the launch of Operation Eastern Sentry after Russian drones entered Polish airspace, Reuters reported.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte said the main goal of the operation was to strengthen the defense of Europe's eastern flank. He said Denmark, France, the United Kingdom and Germany had joined the mission. Other aspects of the operation have not yet been disclosed.

"It is completely unacceptable for Russian drones to enter the airspace of allied countries. We cannot turn a blind eye to this," Rutte said.

French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged to deploy Rafale fighter jets to protect Polish airspace.

For your information, on September 11, Poland asked allies for additional air defense systems and anti-drone technology to counter threats from Russia. On September 10, NATO forces shot down several drones that crossed the Polish border during a large-scale Russian airstrike on Ukraine.
