Mufti of Moscow: the share of locals in mosques is increasing
Due to the migration of immigrants from Moscow, the share of local residents in the mosques of the Russian capital is increasing. Deputy mufti of Moscow Almaz Abdurakhmanov informed about this.
Despite this, the total number of visitors did not change significantly, only the people spread to the 30 mosques opened in Moscow. According to official statistics, the number of people who participated in Eid prayers on Eid al-Adha corresponds to last year's figures.
"It is obvious that against the background of the strengthening of the migration policy, local Russian Muslims are increasing in Moscow mosques. In addition, Islamic centers contribute to the support of local Muslims, which ensures that the local population does not crowd around the Central Mosques," said Abdurahmanov.
The mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin, also spoke about this at a meeting on security on the eve of Eid al-Adha.
"Over the past few years, about 30 prayer centers have been opened in the capital. For example, if thousands of Muslims come to such centers during the Eid prayer, it can be understood that about thirty thousand Muslims went to the mosque in total. This is important for the normal functioning of the city," he said.
