UNICEF said more than 28,000 children are being treated in hospitals, most of them babies under six months old. According to the Ministry of Health, exclusive breastfeeding in the first six months can prevent up to 50 percent of infant deaths.
So far, approximately 2 million moderately and severely malnourished children have been treated.
For your information, the main reason why children in Afghanistan suffer from hunger is food insecurity due to economic hardship and political instability. Returning migrants and refugees are putting pressure on resources, while the health system is weak and natural disasters are damaging agriculture. As a result, children are not receiving adequate food and medical care.
