More than 100 pro-Palestinian students were arrested at Columbia University
About 100 students were arrested at Columbia University in New York, USA, who demonstrated against the financial investment in companies profiting from the genocide in Gaza and the occupation of Palestine.
Students protested after the New York Police Department (NYPD) announced that officers would arrest those who refused to stop the demonstration. This is reported by CNN.
More than 100 students, who gathered against the financial investment in companies profiting from the genocide in Gaza and the occupation of Palestine, were reportedly arrested after refusing police demands to disperse. The police also demolished the protesters' tents.
Columbia University President Minouche Shafiq said the protest was a "threat" to the university's operations: "We are asking the NYPD to help remove these people."
In the footage that appeared on social networks, it can be seen that the mirshabs, who came to the university campus at the request of the rector, prevented the peaceful demonstration and threatened to arrest those who opposed it.
Earlier, Columbia University decided to discipline four students who participated in the "Resistance 101" demonstration on March 24, calling the participants of these demonstrations "supporters of terrorism."
