More than 700 people have been evacuated after a terror attack threat was received at a mosque in East London. An anonymous e-mail was received about a bomb placed in one of the largest mosques in the country, located in Whitechapel.

The management of the mosque immediately contacted the police, and hundreds of people, including students from three nearby schools, were evacuated. The police, who quickly arrived at the scene, searched the building. The threat has not been confirmed, but a possible hate crime is under investigation.

Yahoo! News writes that as a result of urgent measures, the evening call to prayer was not performed for the first time in the 37-year history of the mosque.

The mosque redoubled security following the threat and was quick to reassure the community by assuring them that law enforcement was taking the incident seriously.

An Islamophobic letter arrived at an Islamic primary school in Ilford an hour after a London mosque was threatened. The letter contains references to the events in Gaza and statements supporting Israel.
