Israel* launches airstrikes near Damascus
Five Israeli warplanes carried out an airstrike on the Sahnaya area near Damascus, Syria, on Sunday, the state news agency SANA reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. At least nine airstrikes were carried out during the attack, the Israeli military said.
The Israeli side stated that this military operation was carried out in response to threats against the local population by armed groups operating around Damascus.
According to an official statement, the attack was carried out to "protect Druze citizens."
The Syrian Ministry of Interior officially confirmed in a statement that an Israeli drone had struck an area where security forces were concentrated.
"This is the second airstrike targeting security centers in the Sahnaya area this morning," the ministry said in a statement.
There has been no official information about the number of deaths or injuries in the attack at this time.
