UN demands Israel stop attacks on Syria

At an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council convened at the initiative of Syria, Algeria, and Sudan, many countries strongly condemned the attacks on Syrian territory by the Israeli occupation, Levan24 reports.

Representatives of Russia, Greece, France, Denmark, Panama and Turkey expressed their support for Syria's sovereignty and called for an immediate end to the military aggression. They stressed that the new government was not hostile and deserved support from the international community, the report said.

UN Under-Secretary-General Jean-Pierre Lacroix reported civilian casualties as a result of airstrikes and ground military operations in the cities of Damascus, Hama, and Homs, as well as other areas.

He stated that Israel's plans to maintain a military presence in the region violate international agreements and pose a serious threat to regional stability.

Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Reji called for the acceleration of the reconstruction of Syria and the lifting of sanctions against it, stressing that such steps would help Syrian refugees return safely to their homes, the report said.
