Israel destroys 1,109 mosques and three churches in Gaza

The Palestinian Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs reported that 1,109 mosques and 3 churches in Gaza were destroyed during Israeli aggression between October 7, 2023 and January 19, 2024. At least 315 employees of mosques and religious institutions were killed, and 27 were arrested by Israeli soldiers. The ministry announced the formation of the Minaret Coalition, which includes heads of religious and charitable organizations and other religious leaders from more than 30 countries, to restore mosques and religious institutions.

According to reports, at least 315 employees of mosques and religious institutions were killed, and 27 were arrested by Israeli soldiers.

It is reported that 275 mosques were partially or heavily damaged by Israeli bombing, and 834 mosques were completely destroyed. Three churches in Gaza were also destroyed by airstrikes.

In addition, 40 of the 60 cemeteries in Gaza were damaged and 21 were completely destroyed. Israeli soldiers dug up and stole the bodies of the dead, the ministry said .

As a result of the Israeli aggression, 643 religious sites (land and property belonging to religious institutions) were destroyed. 30 legal institutions and 30 administrative buildings, including the ministry's headquarters and the Quran Radio Station, were also damaged .

The ministry announced the formation of the Minaret Coalition to restore mosques and religious institutions. The coalition includes heads of religious and charitable organizations and other religious leaders from more than 30 countries.
